We all have a bit of understanding of how to make films from watching TV and movies. You can draw on some of this everyday experience or understanding that you have and brainstorm with friends to turn your idea into the basis of a film… use post it notes and pens to arrange your thoughts. Don’t reject the crazy or wild ideas they sometimes make the most engaging films.

You can use a variety of techniques, you can either use the Pause button, to capture one continuous story, or alternatively…

You can use Scripting, Storyboarding or just a Shot list… remember, identify a beginning, a middle and an end for your film and then you have your story.

•A Script is like writing the story of the film with ideas for shots and perhaps voiceover or dialogue

•A storyboard is made up of annotated sketches that describe the film that could be turned into a script

•Shot list – the simplest option, a list of all the shots to cover the idea

You also need to think about
Where? (location),
When? (schedule),
Who? More than one person can make a film, enlist your friends and family as crew, presenters or actors.
What? (props)
