R.E.M.G. Ramos Entertainment Management Group Founded in 1993, Ramos Entertainment Management Group has grown into the largest urban-music concert promoter in Canada. Our humble beginnings date back to June 21, 1993 when we introduced The Pharcyde to a packed audience inside the Opera House. Nine years and almost 200 shows later, R.E.M.G. has presented some of the biggest names in music including: De La Soul, Alicia Keys, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Method Man, Mary J. Blige, and R.Kelly, amongst many, many others. R.E.M.G. also has a rich history of "breaking" relatively unknown artists to the Toronto music scene. Such artists include Jamiroquai (`93), The Fugees & Ben Harper (`94), The Roots (`95), Outkast (`96), Erykah Badu (`97), Eminem (`99), and Jurassic 5 & Dilated Peoples (`99). In addition, R.E.M.G. has established events which have become an important part of Toronto's hip-hop scene: Ill-a-mental was founded in 1999 as a summer series dedicated to showcasing the finest talent in underground hip-hop. Slum Village launched the series on July 14, 1999 at the Comfort Zone. The Ill-a-mental stage has been host to legendary artists including Bahamadia, Jeru the Damaja, Phife Dawg, Planet Asia, J-Live, Necro, Swollen Members and much, much more. The 416 Graffiti Expo (established with Matt Robinson) has become one of the most anticipated annual events on Toronto's hip-hop calendar. The Expo was set-up to provide a showcase for Toronto's graffiti artists, to demonstrate the artistic merit of graf and to combat the public misconception that graffiti is vandalism. On a single weekend every year, some of Toronto's best graf writer's assemble to throw up murals at the corner of Queen and Portland. Supported by live MCs, DJs and B-boys, the free event attracts upwards of 10,000 people, over two days, from all over Ontario, Quebec and parts of the U.S. Past Expos have featured special appearances by Guru, The High and Mighty, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, and the Hieroglyphics.
The International Turntablist Federation of Canada (ITF Canada) is the most respected turntablist organization in the world. ITF has judged and crowned some of the most prolific tablists of all-time including Vinroc, Q-Bert, A-Track, and Mista Sinista. R.E.M.G. is proud to be affiliated with ITF Canada and is committed to showcasing the most talented turntablists from Vancouver to Halifax. Annual competitions are held in every major Canadian city, and the winner of each city advances to the national championship. The Canadian winner will then represent their country in the ITF Battle for World Supremacy. Look out for the ITF regionals coming to a city near you.
In the spirit of the back-in-the-day, true-school jam, R.E.M.G. proudly brings you Doin It; a monthly series featuring legendary hip-hop DJs who have also established themselves as some of the most respected beatmakers in their field. Renowned for their legendary vinyl collections and their dedication to diggin' in the crates, they'll take you, with the help of Toronto's best DJs, on a journey through funk, soul, boogaloo, classic house, breaks, and of course.hip-hop. The first edition in August 2001, featured beat legend Pete Rock, and the second edition in March 2002, featured The Roots' drummer, DJ Questlove.
Apart from our specialty events, R.E.M.G. has also produced many shows in London, Ontario. From Del, Casual, Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Swollen Members, Zion I, Living Legends and more, R.E.M.G. is committed to bringing the finest local and international talent to the 519!
