About the artist
Filmmakers Name:
Kevin Michael Connolly
Description:
A broken family of three sit at the base of a mountain. Above them sits a swirling, inky black cloud promising their destruction. A father and his two sons are forced to confront their desires in life as well as their relationships to one another in the last ten minutes of their lives.
This film takes place over the course of 10 minutes of narrative real-time. We filmed every scene chronologically on location (aside from the final scene in the cloud) outside of Bozeman, Montana in February of 2008. The cloud is the result of layers and layers of slowed down ink and paint being dropped into a large aquarium, and that way avoids a more artificial (and expensive) CG look.
The ash raining down on the family is finely shredded recycled newspaper. Savvy.
